A riveted-plate fireplace surround for a 1923 Tudor on Queens Road West. The client wanted something that looked like it had always been there — and would still be there when their grandchildren sold the house.
We worked from the original 1920s archival drawings for similar Tudor homes, hand-cut each plate, and hot-riveted the joints rather than welding. The patina was applied with linseed oil and beeswax, then heated to a soft black.
Eleven weeks in the shop, three days on site. The mantel itself is reclaimed heart pine from the property's original carriage house.
